Summer, 2008 activities of the SCMTA

Portola Redwoods State Park and Pescadero Creek County Park: An 11-mile hike along the Coyote Ridge, Tarwater, Canyon, Bear Ridge and Pomponio Trails. Meet at Portola Redwoods SP headquarters at 9:30 or Hwy 280 and Page Mill Park and Ride at 8:45. Leader is Martin Donald (650) 966-1984.

Big Basin Trail Maintenance: Meet Jeff Bleam at park headquarters at 9 AM for some hands-on trail work. This group meets the second Saturday of each month. Call (831) 338-0774.

Trail Maintenance - Skyline to the Sea Trail: Al Lisin, (408) 252-8106, leads a group that maintains the Skyline to the Sea Trail. This group also meets on the second Saturday of the month. Meet at Saratoga Gap at 9:00.

Golden Gate Bridge-Marin Headlands: Over the bridge to the Coastal trail, along the SCA trail and Morning Sun to Sausalito, back on Bridgeway then descend into the Baker Fort area, Discovery Museum and Vista Point. 10-11 miles moderate hike. Meet at Battery East parking lot, first dirt lot EAST of the Bridge on the San Francisco side. Castle Rock State Park Trail Maintenance: The third Saturday of every month Martin Donald leads trail work in the Castle Rock area. Meet at Saratoga Gap parking lot at 9:00. Call Martin at (650) 966-1984. Bring boots and gloves, lunch and liquid. Tools are supplied but bring your own favorites if you prefer.

Huddart County Park: Carpool at 280/Page Mill at 8.30 or meet at Huddart Park's parking lot at Redwood picnic area at 9.30. Call Vivian (408) 238-3388 for details.

Henry Cowell State Park , Fall Creek unit: A 10-mile hike at Fall Creek unit of Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park near Felton. Meet in the Fall Creek parking lot at 9:30 or car-pool from municipal parking lot in Los Gatos (formally VTA lot) at 8:45 For more information, call Judy Holmes at (408) 379-3756.

Portola State Park: Meet at Park Headquarters at 9:30 AM for a 13-mile hike. We'll hike to the trail camp, then take off along the Bear Creek Trail to the Peters Creek Loop. Car-pooling from Page Mill Rd. & 280 at 8:30. Cathy Howard (650) 966-1850.
This hike will be followed by drinks and snacks in the park (leader's treat) and planning our fall hikes. Please bring your October-November-December calendar and hike ideas!

Angel Island State Park: A 7 mile loop around Angel Island including a trek up Mt. Livermore. We will catch the Blue and Gold Ferry at Pier 41, leaving at 9:40 AM and departing Angel Island at 2:55 PM Tickets are $15 round trip, purchased at Pier 39 box office. Big Basin Redwoods State Park: Howard King Trail up to the Falls and back via Sunset, Timms Creek and then Skyline to the Sea Trail back to Headquarter. Meet at Headquarters at 9:30, carpool from Saratoga behind LaFondu at 8:30. Ellen (408) 267-6456.

Forest of Nisene Marks State Park: A loop of 10 miles, up the West Ridge Trail, over to Maple Falls and than back down the Loma Prieta Trail. Meet at George's Picnic Area at 9:30, at Page Mill Road and 280 at 8:00 or at the Municipal Parking Lot at Los Gatos at 8:30. Call Todd Patterson for details. (831) 239-6618.

Butano State Park: This is a moderate 9-mile loop up Jackson Flats & Canyon Trails to the BLLS. Meet at park entrance kiosk at 9:30 or Page Mill & 280 Park & Ride at 8:15. Call Ellen (408) 267-6456. Don't forget that there's artichoke garlic herb bread at the Pescadero Market afterwards.

Wunderlich County Park: Explore this County Park with Janet McCarron (408) 245-1519. A round trip to Skyline Blvd. and back is 11 miles and 1800 feet but the grade is easy. Meet for carpooling at the Page Mill Rd. Park and Ride just off 280 at 9:10 or at parking lot at park entrance at 9:30. DUE TO LIMITED PARKING AT WUNDERLICH PARK, CARPOOLING IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED.

Henry Cowell State Park: A moderate 9-mile hike with lots of up and down hills. Bring sneakers or some kind of booties for wading across the San Lorenzo River. Meet at 8:15 at Page Mill & 280 Park & Ride or 8:45 in the Los Gatos municipal lot (formally VTA lot). Call Martin Donald for details (650) 966-1984.
