This trip (May 24-25) was led by Todd. Toni, Steve, Martin, Carolyn, Mary-Ellen, Esther, Barbara, Paul (a newbie) Corry, Bruce, Mark and Ellen all joined in on this adventure. All 13 of us showed up at the Sky Camp trail head. Put our HUGE back packs on plus 2 wagons of extra stuff to trek uphill 1½ miles to our campsite. It was foggy, windy and drizzly but everyone was still excited to get going. We set up camp in the fog, wandered around and looked at each others tents, backpacks and generally just checked each other out! Some took a little hike and when everyone returned we finally started to BBQ oysters which turned into quite a social event. Todd, our chef, was in his element. Then there was dinner and games and cocktails—no wonder we needed the wagons! As an extra treat, the fog lifted long enough for us to enjoy an amazing sunset. When we woke up on Sunday the weather was absolutely perfect! We hiked through a beautiful forest with lichen hanging on these gorgeous trees, cow parsnips and many amazing flowers (that only Martin could pronounce), then all of a sudden we were hiking down to Arch Rock overlooking the ocean — we walked back along the bluffs until we reached Sculpture Beach (great rock formations and a nice place for a little nap) and had our lunch. Finally we trekked back up to our campsite through the remnants of the fire that swept through Pt. Reyes in the 90's—yep 13 miles and smiling all the way! Once back at our site we tipped a few more bottles, had another great meal, enjoyed each others company, played liars dice (which Carolyn was the supreme winner). The campers around us kept wondering who we were—and even though we were loud they enjoyed hearing us laugh! We woke up to fog on Monday, broke camp after breakfast and wandered down to our cars to return to civilization with another amazing memory under out belts! Two nights out in nature is enough to refresh and recharge anyone! I think we all walked away with a big smile and a new sense of friendship. |
